I pushed the levels on the line to the recorder way to far and a lot of this show sounds like crap. But hey, at least the show is only two hours, instead of the usual three! Come out to The North Dubliner every Sunday from 8-11PM for open mic nite! I like to think that after gigging several times a week for the last 5 years or so, that I’ve seen just about everything. I’ve had drunk dudes stand beside me during an entire song, singing the lyrics to the song they WANTED me to play. I’ve seen drunk girls (notice a theme here?) trip on our floor monitors, and come crashing head-over-heels onto the stage, laughing the whole way down. Nothing could prepare me for the environmental phenomenon we experienced this week at Open Mic.

From what I’ve read, basically what happens is that occasionally unshielded guitar cables can pick up short-wave radio transmissions, then amplifying said signals through the PA. You can hear this at the very beginning of the first recording of the night, and it brought One Mile Final’s original, “Earthquake” to a screeching halt (around minute 28 of track 1, careful, it’s loud). Bizarre. I originally thought it was air traffic control, but listening to it again, it definitely wasn’t aviation communication (I’m a private pilot. N.B.D.). Fortunately, it eventually stopped, and the rest of the night went off without a hitch.

Something interesting always happens at open mic! Also, I’m typing this post with raw fingers, because Chase and I switched spots during the second set (track 2) and I slap-de-bass!
